SPC2608 Reflection Blog #2 Isabella Gonzalez

SPC2608 Reflection Blog #2 Isabella Gonzalez         For the second and final reflection blog for Intro to Public Speaking, the project was called “Hialeah Past-Present-Future. In which we were presented with the following subtopics: Hialeah’s Past, Hialeah’s Present, Hialeah’s migration in the 1980’s and Hialeah’s Future.  The first group presented Hialeah’s past (1921-2005), the introduction for their presentation was visually pleasing and organized. But throughout the presentation I see a difference in slide themes throughout each person presenting which did not make the whole presentation fluid. But even though the themes in the presentation were different, the information shown on each slide was informed with pictures to engage the audience. Out of all the presentations I think this is the best one regarding showing the information they are talking about. This first presentation talked about Hialeah’s past.  Originally inhabited by the ...

Reading through all of the group presentations in my class last week, I didn't really think that I would be as interested as I was. I thought that it would be one of those typical assignments stand up, give your presentation, sit down, and zone out while other people present. But it wasn't anything remotely like that. The topic of Hialeah turned out to be so much more engrossing than I had expected, and hearing the diverse arguments and analyses of perspective from my classmates created within me a new appreciation for just how rich and multifaceted a society can be.          When it came to our own group presentation, we were assigned to accomplish Hialeah's present condition. I believe right from the start, I really became interested in it not just conducting research for the grade, but actually learning about how this city operates today and what makes it so special. We covered demographics, local business, economic con...

Goyette Julien SPC2608 Reflection Blog #1 Group 1: Chapters 1, 2, 3 & 5 Group 1 discussed the fundamental guidelines for successful public speaking for this section of the presentations. This involved organizing your thoughts with intent, making sure you speak correctly, comprehending audience participation, and more. These are essential elements of any effective speech or presentation. Speaking in front of an audience has always been a significant part of my life. My father took it upon himself to ensure that I worked on speaking in front of others from a very young age. For almost every family event and get together, he would give me little speeches and introductions. Whether it was a simple barbecue, a holiday feast, or a birthday, it made no difference. I was the designated speaker. He even recorded these moments on camera, and we still have a collection of those early memories today. Consequently, my mother was inspired by that process and decided to start guiding me into the ...

fear of public speaking   “How cool this is going to be—learning to speak without anxiety and build genuine connections.” As I reflect on this experience, I realize how much I learned about effective speaking, teamwork, and personal growth. Diving into Chapters 1, 2, 3, & 5: The Tricks of the Trade The first segment of our presentation covered foundational techniques: grabbing attention, organizing ideas, and using effective delivery. I remember reviewing Chapter 1 and being struck by the emphasis on knowing your audience—something I’d never really thought about before. By Chapter 3, which stressed voice modulation and body language, I practiced in front of my bedroom mirror, exaggerating gestures and varying my tone. Those little rehearsals saved me from being a monotone robot in the final video. Preparing for Success: Chapters 4, 6, 7 & 8 Next, we moved into the preparation phase. Chapter 4’s breakdown of research techniques helped me discover credible sources for ...

Public Speaking                  Group 1 started off the presentations of the round, and they really raised the bar. Their presentation was centered on what I would think of as the building blocks of public speaking things that are necessary for being a good speaker but are not necessarily flashy or exciting. They talked about audience analysis kind of like a warm up for thinking about your speech, how to build confidence again, our first speaker had a perfect example of this, and the importance of active listening which I think was a nice way to think about how good speakers ...

SPC2608 Reflection Blog Isabella Gonzalez

SPC2608 Reflection Blog Isabella Gonzalez         As our first presentation in the public speaking class, the whole class was divided into groups to cover chapters one through seventeen. In each group, a chapter was assigned to each person, which meant that throughout one presentation, there were different types of designs and presentation styles; especially if the group didn’t communicate well, including mine. Throughout most of the presentations, I noticed some groups communicated effectively, with each member contributing what they had prepared. On the other hand, for example, my group ended up with only about three members presenting because we didn’t coordinate well, which is something I want to improve for our next presentation. Group one presented chapters one through five, and their presentation stood out for being well-organized and cohesive. They used the same theme throughout their slides, which made the entire presentation look professional and unifi...
