Goyette Julien SPC2608 Reflection Blog #1 Group 1: Chapters 1, 2, 3 & 5 Group 1 discussed the fundamental guidelines for successful public speaking for this section of the presentations. This involved organizing your thoughts with intent, making sure you speak correctly, comprehending audience participation, and more. These are essential elements of any effective speech or presentation. Speaking in front of an audience has always been a significant part of my life. My father took it upon himself to ensure that I worked on speaking in front of others from a very young age. For almost every family event and get together, he would give me little speeches and introductions. Whether it was a simple barbecue, a holiday feast, or a birthday, it made no difference. I was the designated speaker. He even recorded these moments on camera, and we still have a collection of those early memories today. Consequently, my mother was inspired by that process and decided to start guiding me into the ...

fear of public speaking “How cool this is going to be—learning to speak without anxiety and build genuine connections.” As I reflect on this experience, I realize how much I learned about effective speaking, teamwork, and personal growth. Diving into Chapters 1, 2, 3, & 5: The Tricks of the Trade The first segment of our presentation covered foundational techniques: grabbing attention, organizing ideas, and using effective delivery. I remember reviewing Chapter 1 and being struck by the emphasis on knowing your audience—something I’d never really thought about before. By Chapter 3, which stressed voice modulation and body language, I practiced in front of my bedroom mirror, exaggerating gestures and varying my tone. Those little rehearsals saved me from being a monotone robot in the final video. Preparing for Success: Chapters 4, 6, 7 & 8 Next, we moved into the preparation phase. Chapter 4’s breakdown of research techniques helped me discover credible sources for ...

Public Speaking Group 1 started off the presentations of the round, and they really raised the bar. Their presentation was centered on what I would think of as the building blocks of public speaking things that are necessary for being a good speaker but are not necessarily flashy or exciting. They talked about audience analysis kind of like a warm up for thinking about your speech, how to build confidence again, our first speaker had a perfect example of this, and the importance of active listening which I think was a nice way to think about how good speakers ...

SPC2608 Reflection Blog Isabella Gonzalez As our first presentation in the public speaking class, the whole class was divided into groups to cover chapters one through seventeen. In each group, a chapter was assigned to each person, which meant that throughout one presentation, there were different types of designs and presentation styles; especially if the group didn’t communicate well, including mine. Throughout most of the presentations, I noticed some groups communicated effectively, with each member contributing what they had prepared. On the other hand, for example, my group ended up with only about three members presenting because we didn’t coordinate well, which is something I want to improve for our next presentation. Group one presented chapters one through five, and their presentation stood out for being well-organized and cohesive. They used the same theme throughout their slides, which made the entire presentation look professional and unifi...

The recent class presentation that covered the book “Public Speaking: The Evolving Art” by Stephanie J. Coopman and James Lull was an ambitious and excellent effort. Considering the high amount of content, it was clear that each team put considerable time and energy into preparing and organizing the material. This feedback aims to provide constructive insights into the strengths of the presentations and suggestions for areas that could be improved for future academic or professional presentations. The project managers gave a brief introduction of each group’s presentation to help the audience get settled in, and each group member gave background information, which was followed by a more detailed discussion. An opening slide that described the goals and scope of the presentation worked very well. It provided the audience with a road plan to follow and est...

The Fear of Public Speaking Why our nerves take the mic before we do, and how to take it back Our first group presentation in the Intro to Public Speaking course was a strong success. Each of the four presentations demonstrated our growing ability to craft and deliver a speech, while also challenging us to improve our communication and listening skills. The dedication and effort from everyone involved were clearly evident. For a first presentation, the results were impressive, everyone did an excellent job fulfilling their roles. They introduced essential techniques like capturing the audience’s attention, structuring ideas logically, and delivering with confidence. They also emphasized the importance of knowing your audience, having a clear p...
